Christmas Music and a Meal Out?

Tues. Dec. 25

First, something to put you in the mood for Christmas … Lord knows, there’s a myriad of musical choices out there in every genre under the sun. But we think we’ve discovered a new genre, and we’ve been holidaying it up here in our household with the music of Metallica, AC/DC and Green Day. "Huh?" you’re thinking. It’s a series of three discs put out under the "Wreck the Halls" rubric and what Santa Claws and the Naughty But Nice Orchestra do is Christmasify classics like "Nothing Else Matters," "Hell’s Bells" and "Welcome to Paradise." What that means is these songs are identifiable both as Xmas songs and songs done by the group in question – that is, the melody line remains the same, but there are bells and strings and things that somehow conjure up Christmas. It’s a weird concept – making holiday tunes out of punk, metal and hard rock staples – but it works and it may put you in a better mood than another round of "Frosty the Snowman." There’s a separate disc devoted to each band. So, grab these discs and get in the mood for present opening and turkey or what-have-you. However, if you’re looking to get out and dine – no cooking, no cleaning, no unwanted relatives – we’d recommend McCormick & Schmick’s, the seafood-and-more restaurant in the Back Bay anbd Faneuil Hall. Why? Well, they’re one of the few top-drawer restaurants open – 11:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. for the mid-day meal – and they’re very good.
